DESIGN COMPETENCE

Pro|Engineer design and manufacturing software with Expert Moldbase Extension (EMX) was originally created in the USA and Germany, and has been the backbone of the success of the tool making industries in Europe and the Far East. One of the equity holders in PTM, Cooke & Son Manufacturing, has utilised this software very effectively over the last 7 years. It is from this resource that PTM draws its design competence.

Pro|Engineer is a single suite of software which enables the user to derive the maximum benefit from concurrent engineering. Design is carried out in 3D, with parametric control, which allows quick flexible change to optimise the design, as well as automation of mundane routine tasks such as detailing. Throughout the process, from design to machining, there is no translation of CAD data. Changes in the component to be moulded, automatically update right through the design, even to the NC tool path, simply by regeneration. This means all design and programming only needs to be carried out once, in spite of changes during the process. This reduces the design time dramatically.

Furthermore the design data pack is complete, prior to tool construction commencing. Both these factors allow the tooling to be built within desired lead times, typically 20 - 30% less than the normal SA standard, and comparable to international standards.
